about

Concatenation, Wicker Bones’ latest EP is a six track miniature concept album that has received great response from live audiences
and hopefully now from the music buying public. It represents our strongest expression of the musical material closest to our heart and also aims to broaden the scope of what a traditional band, where three out of five members cannot read music, can do.
Recorded in July 2012, this EP is our first step towards a planned full length concept album to be recorded in early to mid 2013.

About the Music:

Construction I is a homage to the great American Minimalist composers and takes the foundational musical material found in Rocky Road to Dublin and treats them as fragments of an evolving landscape, much like the journey described in the original song.

Our take on Rocky Road to Dublin attempts to breathe new life into a very well known tune. The first verse is treated as a recitative over a pedal bass note which is suddenly cut off when the second verse kicks in. The remainder of the song utilizes a new harmonic structure while maintaining the original melody.

Battle of Frank is one of the earliest Wicker Bones' instrumental tunes written by Ian Grahame and Dylan Curran. It's bright, lively mood provides a nice contrast to the material up to this point. It ends with an instrumental version of Rocky Road to Dublin, bringing this song to its conclusion.

Concatenation I for solo violin and laptop is a collaboration between Dylan Curran and Bryan Dunphy. It is our first attempt at exploring a musical palette that we hope will enhance the Irish tradition in a completely new way.

Love Song, written by Dylan Curran attempts to marry the quiet/loud structure utilized so successfully by Nirvana with a traditional idiom. It features an immense vocal performance from Bryan Dunphy.

Love Link is a short exploration of the musical material used in Love Song that culminates in a rich harmonic coda.

Red Iron Ore is a traditional American folk song found by Bryan Dunphy and arranged by him and Dylan Curran.
